A View From The Bridge

Chelsea do not appear keen to splash the cash to land Haaland next summer

The finances involved may rule Chelsea out of the running to land Erling Haaland

According to AS (h/t Football.London), the Chelsea board appear unwilling to splash a staggering £295million, including transfer fee and wages combined for Erling Haaland

The Norwegian is one of the most lethal goalscorers in the world of football currently. He scored 41 and 44 goals in his last two seasons for Borussia Dortmund and continues to go from strength to strength.

Before moving to Germany, his talent was clear for all to see in the Austrian Bundesliga, where he showed exceptional growth. But his consistency with Dortmund has been something else entirely. It is no wonder that he is currently one of the hottest transfer targets for elite teams.

Along with Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid are all interested in the Norweigian striker. But it seems the interested parties would need to splash a lot of money to lure the former RB Salzburg player.

Haaland’s agent, Mino Raiola, is the devil’s advocate and is believed to be planning to acquire the best possible deal for his agent. While he is well within his rights to do so, the numbers quoted could prove to be a bridge too far for Chelsea.

It is believed that he could cost £295million, and this number can give headaches to even the teams with the biggest pockets in the land.

The 21-year-old player’s £64m release clause is set to come into play next summer. But it seems the interested clubs would have to pay up to £85m for the transfer. The pocket of concerned football clubs will feel considerably lighter after paying such an amount. The transfer fee however pales in comaprison tot he wages Haaland is seeking.

It is believed that the wage bill could be around £42m per year – or more than £800,000 per week. In such a case, the buyer have to pay £210m more in wages to sign Haaland on a five year deal.

After acquiring Romelu Lukaku for a record £97.5m, such a monstrous money deal could make Chelsea’s hopes to land the player doubtful. It willt ake a small fortune for us to do so anyway.
