Transfer News: Chelsea dealt blow as Gavi of Barcelona decides on his future

According to the English portal of the Spanish newspaper Sport, Chelsea have been dealt a transfer blow as Barcelona teenager Gavi has taken a stance on his future amidst links with a move to Stamford Bridge.

The 17-year-old has emerged to become one of the brightest prospects in the world currently. He has already made a mark in the first team at Camp Nou and has done the same for his national side. He recently helped Spain to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup qualifiers.

The Spaniard is touted as one of the gems that are coming through the infamous La Masia. Comparisons with midfield greats Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta have already happened, but he has not been fazed by them. He is considered a part of the next golden generation that is brewing up at the Blaugrana club.

The youngster has taken a firm stance that he will stay at Barca despite the challenging phase the club is going through currently. Furthermore, the interest from the English club is played down to be just a rumour for getting a better contract.

His representatives are currently engaged in negotiations with Joan Laporta for an extension. The Barca president wants to add him to Ansu Fati and Pedri, who had their contracts recently renewed. Earlier, Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Spanish club are not concerned about the interest from the Blues.

The latest offer from Laporta would see the midfielder extend his contract for five more years if it is accepted. Talks are also progressing currently, which could mean that it is only a matter of time before it is finally completed.

The midfield prodigy was recently involved against Espanyol and was excellent as his team won 1-0. It was his first match under Xavi, and he performed well, albeit being played out of position due to injuries in the squad. A transfer to England was always unlikely, looking at the circumstances that helped him reach the current stage.
