Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t Football.London), Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has given his thoughts on the threat posed by Leicester City ahead of their Premier League clash at the King Power Stadium. This will be the first match that the Blues will be involved in following the international break.
Coming into this game, Chelsea sit top of the table with 26 points from 11 matches. Leicester, meanwhile are in the 12th position with 15 points from the same number of games. Securing a win is e essential given the number of games we have coming up in December.
The league leaders looked in top form before the break but suffered a setback against Burnley as they drew 1-1. The Foxes, meanwhile are coming off the back of a 2-0 loss against Arsenal and a 1-1 tie with Leeds United.
Leicester have enjoyed a Jekyll and Hyde season and have often blown hot and cold. Tuchel is not willing to take the opponents for granted and expects a difficult night at their home stadium.
“They had a key player in Fofana get injured and this can create trouble but listen, they are a team full of individual quality, talent. It is a top club, team and coach. I expect a tough one but I also expect our team to play with hunger, passion and a will to win.”
Tuchel acknowledged that Wesley Fofana being injured can be a blow but, Brendan Rodgers’ side still has the quality to be dangerous. He added that he has already received warnings that King Power Stadium can be challenging, and since it is his first time, it will be a tricky affair.
“This is the mindset that we want to install to restart our engine after the international break. It is my first time there, everyone tells me it is a tough place to play.”
The King Power can indeed be a difficult place to visit if Leicester are at the top of their game. Chelsea have got results but have at times lacked the killer edge in matches. Tuchel is right to be cautious ahead of his first trip to the Foxes’ den.
With Manchester City close behind, we must win this match to preserve the gap at the Premier League summit. While the opponents have been inconsistent, we cannot take the foot of the peddle as they would try to take advantage of a potential lack of cohesiveness after the international break.
