A View From The Bridge

Chelsea eyeing Real Madrid misfit in the January transfer window

Chelsea are eyeing Luka Jovic ahead of the winter transfer window

According to Defensa Central (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are looking to lure Luka Jovic amid his declining form at Real Madrid.

The Serbian forward was one of the hottest forward prospects when Real Madrid purchased him in 2019. But he faced adaptation issues with the Spanish League and couldn’t find his best form.

He has, however, failed to put together a consistent run of form and has found the back of the net just twice in 38 appearances. A return to Frankfurt on loan last season did little to improve his fortunes and he is now back in La Liga, goalless this campaign

He has only played 60 min of La Liga action and 35 mins in the Champions League this season. Carlo Ancelotti appears to use him sparingly and it remains to be seen if he has a future at the Bernabeu.

Thomas Tuchel, on the other hand, is looking for a decent backup for his strikers. Chelsea’s current fixture list is quite stacked and the Blues will do well to ensure they have enough strength in depth. After all, in such a competitive league where every player has to give their absolute best in every game, injuries are inevitable.

The German manager already lost Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner, two of his reliable strikers. They were sidelined and missed a few games.  Adding a player of Jovic’s ability will offer Tuchel the necessary depth upfront.

Chelsea are targeting Jovic to add depth to the squad.

Kai Havertz remains the only pure striker available right now. Thomas Tuchel would want to change this to play a strong team every game, and he’d need to interchange between players to achieve that.

Luca Jovic showed his hunger for goals at Eintracht Frankfurt, where he established himself as a lethal striker. The former Paris Saint-German manager could provide Jovic with the opportunity to rejuvenate his career at Stamford Bridge.
