According to The Athletic via Absolute Chelsea on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Burnley are interested in signing Chelsea star Ross Barkley on a loan deal in the winter transfer window. He has struggled for minutes under Thomas Tuchel this season.
Barkley has made eight appearances so far this term but the game time amount to just 238 minutes. He had started in the Blues’ last game, which was against the Clarets in the Premier League. However, he remains well behind the pecking order battling it out with Saul Niguez.
Sean Dyche’s side hope to convince the 27-year-old to join them in January, having promised more game time. The proposal could be convincing as it could give him the chance to get called up for the World Cup squad.
According to TEAMtalk (h/t Football.London), the league leaders are assessing their options to let the England international leave in the January transfer window or not. They could require his services should they continue to challenge for multiple titles as the season progresses.
The midfielder is also said to be with a belief that he can get into the England national team for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. However, he would need to get consistent game time since the competition is high in the England squad.
Tuchel had admitted in his last game that the Englishman had brought himself into contention to get regular game time. And with a month left to go till January, he could be among the regulars if he continues to impress his manager.
The England midfielder has put in some solid displays of late and could be boosted by the German’s words. This could play a part in deciding his future by the club’s board. Time would paint a clearer picture as the situation could unfold even further.
