Two important Chelsea fixtures rescheduled in December after Club World Cup update

The Premier League is set to reschedule 2 Chelsea games as the FIFA Club World Cup shifted to next year

According to Football.London, Chelsea will have a change in their December schedule with UEFA shifting the Club World Cup to next year.

There has been a revamp in the West London club’s schedule following this decision. Chelsea’s matches against Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League have been moved as a result.

The Toffees’ visit to Stamford Bridge will take place on Thursday, December 16. Chelsea’s fixture against Wolves will take place on Sunday, December 19. Both of these games were subject to change as there was looming uncertainty as to when the Blues would have to take part in the Club World Cup.

The tournament was originally supposed to be held in Japan but they gave up the right to host the event due to the Covid pandemic. This FIFA Cup will now take place in the United Arab Emirates. FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed the new location of the tournament only yesterday. The Club World Cup has shifted to 2022 but there isn’t any official confirmation as to when exactly the matches will be held.

The Blues will face a packed schedule in December and are slated to play 9 matches during the whole month. Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku had to be withdrawn in the UEFA Champions League clash against Malmo FF. Thomas Tuchel would be hoping that the attacking duo can recover in time before the hectic festive schedule. The West Londoners will be hoping to secure as many points as possible and set the pace for the rest of the season during that period.

Chelsea are currently sitting on top of the Premier League table and second in their UEFA Champions League group. The German manager will have to navigate through these next few months carefully and we may even see some of the younger and fringe players get more opportunities in the senior squad.
