Report: 25-year-old Chelsea forward could be on the move with four European giants lurking

Transfer News: Borussia Dortmund are interested in Chelsea forward Timo Werner.

Transfer News: Chelsea striker Timo Werner could leave with Juventus, Bayern Munich amongst teams interested

According to transfer news from the Express, Timo Werner could depart Chelsea in the near future with four of Europe’s top clubs interested in the German striker.

Werner joined the Blues from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2020 for a £48million fee. After being trusted by Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel to lead the Blues’ line, Werner’s goal-scoring output was less than impressive.

To rectify Chelsea’s goal-scoring woes, Tuchel went and got Romelu Lukaku this summer. The former Inter Milan striker has now assumed the starting role in the number 9 position and is ahead of Werner in the pecking order.

Werner to leave?

Chelsea’s starting XI has largely featured the Belgian international as the sole striker, but there have been occasions where both Werner and Lukaku played together, such as the game against Southampton.

That shows Tuchel’s trust in the German international and indicates a possibility of Chelsea playing with both their strikers more often. If they really do want to try that system out this season, it wouldn’t be easy considering their current depth upfront.

Tammy Abraham, Olivier Giroud, and Armando Broja all departed Stamford Bridge this summer, leaving the club a little short-handed when it comes to the number 9 position.

With such a lack of depth when it comes to strikers, it would be wiser for the Blues to hold on to Werner, or sell him only when they can ensure that a new face will be coming in. Until then, Werner would still get his chances to prove his worth and hopefully, rekindle his form that made him such a threat in the Bundesliga.
