Transfer News: PSG striker Mauro Icardi linked with a shock move to Chelsea
According to journalist Ekrem Konur (h/t ESPN), Mauro Icardi is linked with Chelsea in a move that could see him reunite with his former coach Thomas Tuchel. The Paris Saint-Germain striker is struggling to get game time at the French capital.
Icardi joined PSG from Inter Milan in 2019 in a season-long loan move and was subsequently signed for a fee of €50m plus €7m in add-ons. He has scored 36 goals and provided 10 assists in 73 appearances at his current club.
However, the striker has struggled to get minutes following Lionel Messi’s move from FC Barcelona. Mauricio Pochettino seems to prefer Neymar Junior, Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria and Messi over him.
It is said that the Blues are willing to negotiate a deal for the 28-year-old as they are suffering from injuries upfront. Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic are all out currently due to injuries and it serves as a reminder that Chelsea can be short in that department if their main men are unavailable for selection.
However, the centre-forward comes with a lot of baggage off the pitch as he is currently out of the club due to “family issues”. He recently had a falling out with his wife Wanda Nara and is said to have set aside their differences.
The Argentinian’s time at Inter is a prime example of the issues associated with him off the pitch. Wanda has also played a part in creating these problems between the club and the player.

The Argentina striker has scored 22 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions when he played under Tuchel. That is a solid return for a striker, however, the baggage is something to be looked upon. It remains to be seen what the English club would decide when it comes to Icardi.
