Liverpool enter the race to sign 21-year-old Chelsea target playing in Ligue 1

Transfer News: Liverpool to battle Chelsea for AS Monaco ace Aurelien Tchouameni

According to The Express, Chelsea will face competition from Liverpool in their efforts to sign AS Monaco star Aurelien Tchouameni.

The 21-year-old is among the best young players on the continent and is steadily enhancing his reputation. He recently started alongside Paul Pogba in France’s 2-1 win over Spain in the UEFA Nations League final.

Monaco are aware of the talent they have on their hands. With the Frenchman starting to perform consistently, they could very well be in for a bidding war come next summer.

Perhaps curiously for Chelsea, Tchouameni has already shown he can replace N’Golo Kante in the years to come. Les Bleus did not miss Kante against Spain thanks to Tchouameni’s performance on the night.

At 30, Kante is not getting any younger. While he still has years left in him, Chelsea could land themselves a similarly effective player at a very young age. They will however not have it easy with both Liverpool and Manchester United also in the fray.

N’Golo Kante with Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel.

French journalist Julian Laurens, Liverpool appear keen on the Frenchman. Jurgen Klopp has made a number of astute buys in recent windows and it remains to be seen just how hard they will push to land him.

The Reds are yet to replace Georginio Wijnaldum and failed to replace him in the summer. Tchouameni’s gameplay mirrors that of the Dutchman and it is just like Liverpool to wait for the opportune moment to pounce.

According to the report, Monaco appear to be willing to listen to offers that are between £42million and £50m for the player. While it is not a small amount, given Tchouameni’s potential it could prove to be peanuts.

Liverpool continue to scout the French international and the interest appears to be more than serious. Hopefully, it will count for nought and Chelsea will swoop in and sign him.
