Transfer News: Juventus hand Chelsea a blow in their pursuit of Federico Chiesa
According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t Express), Chelsea have been handed a major blow in their hopes of landing Juventus star Federico Chiesa.
The Italian international was a standout player in the summer as the Azzurri won the European Championship under Roberto Mancini. His performances in the tournament have not gone unnoticed with both Chelsea and Liverpool keeping tabs.
Juventus, however, are in no mood to play ball. The Italian giants are looking to begin a new era of dominance under Massimilano Allegri and consider Chiesa an untouchable part of their project.
Capable of playing on either wing and also upfront, Chiesa is an intelligent player with pace to burn. His reading of the game coupled with his attacking nous makes him a difficult player to mark.
His ability to run behind defences into space would have made him a key player for Chelsea. However, it would appear we now have to look elsewhere. Chelsea does have excellent wingers but none of them has the directness that Chiesa brings to the field.
Juventus lost Cristiano Ronaldo earlier in the summer and have endured a difficult start to the season. It can be argued that Chiesa could be the pivot around whom the team for the upcoming years can be built.
According to the report, Juventus will not part ways with their prodigious winger for any cost. This if anything should shut the door on Chelsea’s hopes of bringing him to the Bridge, at least for now.
Liverpool made a punt to land him earlier in the summer. The player’s representatives, however, revealed that he has no intentions of moving to England. With him keen to stay in Italy, Juventus appear to have little to worry about.
