Transfer News: Chelsea plan to raid Real Madrid for two first-team stars including Eden Hazard

Transfer News: Chelsea are planning to get Ferland Mendy and Eden Hazard from Real Madrid

According to El Nacional (h/t ESPN), Chelsea are preparing a sensational move for Eden Hazard and Ferland Mendy from Real Madrid. The Champions League winners are said to be interested in bringing back their club legend alongside the French left-back in a double swoop.

Hazard left the Blues back in 2019 in a move that saw the Madrid club pay a fee over €100m. However, following the move, the fan favourite has had it tough at Santiago Bernabeu due to a succession of injuries that affected his form and fitness.

The left-back is said to be on the English club’s radar with the club already having made an offer for him this summer. It is claimed that Thomas Tuchel’s side offered €40million for the 26-year-old back but it was turned down by Florentino Perez.

Tuchel’s side will apparently be making an improved offer but Perez is expected to not listen to offers below the €60m valuation. The president of the La Liga club is believed to be open to entertaining the idea if the right price arrives for the French international.

The Frenchman joined the Spanish club from Olympic Lyon for a fee of €48million and has gone on to impress with his performances. As for the Belgian, the board is said to be open to letting him leave as they are planning a move for Kylian Mbappe.

The rise of Vinicius Junior this season also makes the option to let the winger leave more reasonable. The Los Blancos could be thinking of cutting the cost with the Belgian forward, looking at the options available- but nothing can be said about the deal at this stage.

While Mendy seems like a solid option, he does not really come across as a priority signing at the moment as Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso provide good cover in the left-back spot. His asking price also seems a bit high if we go by that logic.

As for Hazard, a return would be accepted by the fans but a deal should only be done after evaluating the risks. A proper deal structure should be put in place should the injury-prone forward sign for his former club.
