Transfer News: Chelsea keeping tabs on Inter Milan star Marcelo Brozovic

According to FCInterNews (h/t The Express), Chelsea are making a serious push to land Inter Milan star Marcelo Brozovic.

The Croatian international is one of the best midfielders in Serie A on his day and would be a handy addition to the Blues midfield. More so, he could be available for a free next summer.

The 28-year-old is out of contract at the San Siro at the end of the campaign. As of yet, he is yet to pen fresh terms with the Nerazzurri. Apart from Chelsea, French giants, Paris Saint-Germain are also eyeing him with much interest.

Chelsea are interested in Saul Niguez

As things stand, Inter have until January to tie down the midfielder’s future to the club. Brozovic will be free to agree to a pre-contract with other foreign clubs from January 1 2022.

According to the report, the player is content at Inter and appears keen to extend his stay at the club. A meeting has been scheduled for the coming week to discuss his future. Unless something drastic occurs, it would appear Chelsea may have their work cut out in landing him.

The player, for his part, is keen to be rewarded properly. Inter are yet to put an acceptable offer on the table and it remains to be seen if they can do so. The Italian champions are not in the best spot financially.

Signing Brozovic in January could spell the end for a number of players in the Chelsea squad. Both Ross Barkley and maybe even Ruben Loftus-Cheek could find themselves closer to the exit door should the Croatian join.

It will also affect Saul Niguez who is currently on loan from Atletico Madrid. While the Blues do have the option to sign the Spaniard permanently, he is yet to showcase any reason for them to do so.

The midfield is one area that Thomas Tuchel will need to address in the coming windows. N’Golo Kante is not getting younger while Jorginho’s lack of pace is a major handicap. Mateo Kovacic does offer an option but lacks dynamism in the middle of the pitch.

Adding Brozovic would be a welcome option. Whether that comes to happen remains to be seen.
