According to transfer news from CaughtOffside (h/t Express), Chelsea are interested in Angers wonderkid, Mohamed-Ali Cho.
The French teenager is the youngest player in the country’s footballing history to sign a professional contract when he left Everton to join Angers last year. Before his spell in England, Cho was at PSG’s youth academy.
He is also only the second player born in 2004 to score a goal in Europe’s ‘Big-5’ leagues, sharing that honour with Borussia Dortmund’s starlet, Youssoufa Moukoko.
The former Everton youth academy player made his debut for Angers last August when he was aged just 16 years and 224 days. He has even made himself a regular starter for the Ligue 1 outfit.
Chelsea could make a move for the starlet in January. While there is no urgent need for forwards at the club with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner at Tuchel’s disposal, planning for the future is always smart.
If the youngster continues to make a mark for Angers in France, interest from other clubs may arise. If Marina Granovskaia really wants the 17-year-old Stamford Bridge, it’s best to get the deal done as soon as possible.
The Blues sold a veteran this summer in Olivier Giroud and a young prospect in Tammy Abraham with both forwards sealing an exit to Serie A.
Lukaku isn’t getting any younger and Werner isn’t the best goal-scorer on the planet. Depth and quality in the number 9 position are of the utmost importance if a team wants to win trophies and they have to keep planning for the future.
It, however, remains to be seen if Chelsea can translate their interest in the teenager into a formal offer. While Cho may not be a starter right away, a few loan spells can get him ready to lead the line for the club in the future.
