According to Sky Sports, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted that he is less than thrilled about Thiago Silva returning late from international duty with Brazil.
The veteran defender is one of the Blues’ top players and a bonafide leader at the back. A key part of the club’s UEFA Champions League-winning side, he continues to impress for Tuchel’s squad.
With Antonio Rudiger also out injured, Tuchel now faces a defensive crisis heading into the game against Brentford. The German could now have to face off against Thomas Frank’s formidable side sans his first choice centre back pairing.
The 37-year-old will return to England late and will be in no position to feature on Saturday evening. Tuchel has no choice but to leave the veteran out of the matchday squad. He has in no uncertain terms admitted his displeasure at the development.
“Of course I am not happy.”
The German tactician also goes on to make a rant of sorts against how international games are scheduled. Clubs always have to pick up the pieces. Little appears to have changed this time as well.
“Are we happy about it, all the coaches, with the amount of games our players play with their countries? We are not. Do they ask us? They do not. Also, does it change anything? Also not.”
The Blues are currently top of the Premier League after seven games played. Brentford have shown themselves to be fearless in their first season back in the top flight.
Chelsea does have the quality to get the better of their opponents on the night. As long as the players turn up, it should be a straightforward win.
Tuchel is not the lone major manager to express his frustration against the internationals. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp too in his pre-match presser complained against how the clubs in England aren’t protected by the football associations.
