Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has requested for a new striker in the January transfer window
According to Ian McGarry via Express Sport, as quoted by Simon Phillips on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has asked the board for a new striker in the winter transfer window.
The Blues sit top of the Premier League table with 22 points from nine matches while having the best defence. They also have the second-best attack in the league with Liverpool leading on that front.
However, Thomas Tuchel’s side have lost their two strikers due to injuries and are without one at the moment. Back in the summer, Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham left for Seria A whereas Michy Batshuayi went out on loan.
While Kai Havertz could play in that position, he is not a pure centre-forward as Lukaku and Werner. Not to mention, the German striker has failed to capitalise on several chances that he received in front of goal.
The recent link to Mauro Icardi may hold some weight after all as ESPN claimed that a move could be on the cards. This could mean a reunion between the German coach and the Argentine, who played under Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain.
Should a striker join the English club, it would help the Blues boss to be more flexible with his forward line. One thing to note is that Lukaku hit his peak at Inter Milan while playing alongside Lautaro Martinez, a fellow number 9.

It is still early days and we will need to see how the situation develops and what would be the response of the board. This could mean more expenditure for Marina Granovskaia as a potential centre-back crisis may also have to be taken care of.
