According to The Mirror, Thomas Tuchel has mentioned that Chelsea are meeting the standards set by Manchester City and Liverpool over the past few years. The Blues are currently leading a highly contested title race with the Reds and the Citizens close behind.
Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp have steered their team to greater heights than the Premier League has ever seen before. They shared the last four league titles between them and have set new heights to be attained.
Tuchel strongly believes that his team have reduced that gap by a large margin and is currently on the way to reaching their level. His side lost to City in the league but at the same time won a point against the Merseyside club des[ite being a man down at Anfield.
Tuchel admits that both Liverpool and City have been trendsetters in recent years. Both sides are embodiments of their managers and have shown off the mentality of champions.
“I have no problem in admitting that there was a gap in the last seasons and that Liverpool and City set the standards. They created a certain mentality with their managers together over the years.”
The German has turned around things at Stamford Bridge shortly after he was appointed as successor to Frank Lampard. He was able to beat Guardiola’s City in the final of the Champions League and lead them to European glory last season. Winning the Premier League this season is the right step forward.
“We try to close it, we are confident enough to say from the first day we want to close it. This is what drives us. We will work on it because it takes a lot to keep the momentum going.”
It seems that the German manager’s words are true after all as Chelsea won 3-0 against Newcastle United. Klopp’s side drew 2-2 against Brighton and Hove Albion whereas Pep’s team lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace. This leaves Chelsea alone at the top, three points clear of their closest challengers.
Tuchel has proven that he is not just a man of words but also a man of action as they increased their lead in the title race. However, there is still a long way ahead and Chelsea would need to keep up their consistency.
