According to The Independent (h/t The Express), Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has dropped a hint regarding his future at Premier League giants Chelsea.
The Russian-Israeli businessman did so by making his first visit to London in three years. He had been unable to travel to the United Kingdom thanks to issues with his entrepreneurial visa in 2018.
The process has been made easier since Abramovich, a half-Israeli has taken account of an Israeli passport. It is fair to say that the club has changed much since his last visit to London.
There was speculation that the Russian was close to calling it quits at the Bridge owing to financial constraints. That, however, has proven to be just talk so far.
Instead, he has backed the club’s business in the transfer market to a tee, even sanctioning a club-record fee for Romelu Lukaku earlier this summer. It is fair to say that these are not the antics of a man who wants out.
The Russian may not have been able to travel to England. He did, however, catch his beloved side in action when possible at non-UK based venues.
The 54-year-old attended both the 2019 Europa League final in Baku and the 2021 Champions League final in Porto. He has proven to be a lucky charm as the Blues prevailed on both occasions.
Abramovich’s current visit is one focusing on family. However, a visit to the club could be on the cards. Whether the planned rebuild of Stamford Bridge will be brought back on track remains to be seen
The Roman era at Stamford Bridge has been littered with great moments and numerous trophies. Thankfully it does not look like it will end anytime soon.
