Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger open to staying at Stamford Bridge amidst interest from Bayern Munich and Real Madrid
According to ESPN, Antonio Rudiger is open to staying at Chelsea but interest from top European clubs such as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid continues to intensify. It is said that the club and the player are yet to agree on a new deal which is leading his potential suitors to believe that they can land him next year.
Rudiger currently earns a weekly wage of £100,000 at Stamford Bridge. However, it is said that he wants more than double the amount of what he currently earns. But, the club are hesitant to cross the £150,000-a-week mark.
The 28-year-old can agree to a pre-contract agreement with other clubs in January. This is because his contract is set to expire next year. He could leave the Blues should they are not able to agree on the terms.
The centre-back has attracted interest from various clubs namely Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. It is stated that he could earn over £300,000-a-week if he decides to leave.
However, Thomas Tuchel would be hoping that the defender stays as he was crucial in their Champions League winning run last season. He has carried that fine form into this season as the English club sits on top of the Premier League.
With no progress in the contract negotiations, the situation leads to heavy speculation about Rudiger’s future. Before the international break, the German international had spoken about his future. He said:
“The interest honours me. That shows that I’ve done a few things right recently but I don’t let myself be distracted. I have an obligation to my club to perform well.
