In the post-match interview with BT Sport (h/t Football.London), Chelsea forward Kai Havertz spoke about the need to win every match, whether it’s in the Champions League or the Premier League.
The Blues recorded a resounding 4-0 victory against Malmö FF in their latest UEFA Champions League fixture. Jorginho scored converted two times from the spot for the London-based club coupled by some beautiful finishes from Andreas Christensen and Havertz. Despite the victory, Thomas Tuchel had some cause for concern as Chelsea were given a double injury setback with Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.
The West-London outfit are currently on top of the Premier League table and second in their CL group at the moment. The defending Champions League winner are in a pretty comfortable position right now but with the games coming thick and fast, the Blues could miss the presence of the attacking duo.
Callum Hudson Odoi came in to replace Werner and had a substantial impact by providing an assist for the 4th goal. The 20-year-old English player could also be handed more game time with the absence of the Belgian striker and the 25-year-old German forward.
The 22-year-old German international spoke about the difficulty of the Champions League and their ambition to win every game this campaign:
“We know it is a very difficult competition but we have to win every game – that is our goal at Chelsea. Champions League or Premier League we don’t care, we want to win games and that’s our ambition for Saturday.”
The former Bayer Leverkusen player has stepped up in the important matches for the Blues with the important goal against Manchester City to win Chelsea the CL last season being a great example. The German forward has scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in 56 matches for Chelsea across all competitions so far.

It is unlikely that Werner and Lukaku will feature in their upcoming games, which means that the 22-year-old German may have to play an important part in this team. The West London club will play against Norwich, Southampton, and Newcastle in the upcoming matches in the Premier League. The German manager may thus have to rely on some of his younger or fringe players to help the club maintain their top form in England’s top flight.
