Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t ChronicleLive), Newcastle boss Graeme Jones reveals what their supporters need to do in the Premier League match against Chelsea. The Toons host the Blues at St. James’ Park as they sit dangerously in the relegation zone.
Newcastle sit in 19th with just four points from nine matches having not won a single game in the league. They were recently taken over by the Saudi-backed Public Investment Fund amidst heavy backlash.
Earlier, the former boss Steve Bruce was sacked by the new ownership following their loss against Tottenham Hotspur. The Magpies come into this game with a sense of optimism resulting from the changed ownership.
“They will have a big role to play. But I think the supporters are ready for that. I think they are ready to get right behind the group. We need 50,000 Geordies and 25 players all together now. United. Newcastle United.”
Jones’ words would have instilled a sense of battle cry among the Geordies and Thomas Tuchel’s team would need to hold their composure. Tuchel’s side can’t afford a slip-up as the chasing pack are just behind them.
“Against Chelsea through difficult moments and it needs to be permanent. It’s non-negotiable between now and May. We have to be together as a football club, I know they will be.”
Earlier, the Chelsea manager has claimed that it will be tough to face the Tyne based club at this moment. That shows how he has looked at the circumstances that can influence this match and knowing that would help him to rally his team and overcome it.
Chelsea are top of the tree at the moment and games against teams such as Newcastle, who are very much in the relegation dogfight, would be important if the German manager wants to help the Blues finish the season in first place.
