According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United legend, Gary Neville has backed Chelsea to win the Premier League title this season.
The Blues are currently top of the league following their hard-fought 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday night. While the match was less than easy, Chelsea rallied to come out on top against an inspired Bees outfit.
While the performance was far from convincing, it was enough to make Neville the light of the day. The Englishman was privy to a number of title-winning sides in his time and believes Tuchel’s side have the hallmark of champions.
“I think Chelsea can win the title.”
According to the report, Neville is well aware of both Liverpool and Manchester City’s credentials in the title race. Both sides have dominated the Premier League of late and are well among those capable of winning it again this time around.
However, despite our rivals’ s strengths, Neville believes Chelsea possess the necessary resilience and know-how to win titles. The same astuteness was on show in last season’s UEFA Champions League final.
“I do think this Chelsea team are resilient and they’re tough to play against.”
Neville goes on to add that Chelsea’s ability to get the job done at Brentford sans some of their best players showcases their strength find depth. The Blues will only get stronger once these players return to the lineup.
“I can’t think that any team in the league would like to play against them. That was a Chelsea team that had players missing as well, they’ve got so many players to come back.”
The resilience that the Blues display was earlier on show against Liverpool at Anfield. Despite going down to ten men, Tuchel’s side held on for a well-earned point.
It is perhaps ironic that Neville, a Manchester United legend left out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s star-studded side out of contention. But then that is to be expected since they are nothing but paper tigers.
