Speaking to The Telegraph (h/t Football.London), football agent Federico Pastorello has revealed that Chelsea defender Malang Sarr could leave the club on loan in the January transfer news. This is amidst a situation where Sarr has made very few appearances for the first team.
The 22-year-old joined Chelsea on a free transfer in 2020 as his contract with OGC Nice expired in the summer. He was instantly sent out on a season-long loan at Porto but has struggled to get game time this term at Stamford Bridge.
As a result, his agent has backed him to leave out on loan to get top-level experience to get minutes at Chelsea. Pastorello also played a part in bringing Cesar Azpilicueta to Stamford Bridge back in 2012 from Marseille.
“This is what we wanted [a loan] in the summer and we had a deal practically done with Eintracht Frankfurt, but they could not move a player, so Malang stayed.
The centre-back received interest from Eintracht Frankfurt in August but a deal was not agreed upon. He had an offer to join Gruether Furth on deadline day and even flew to Germany for the medical but an agreement was not reached.
“Let’s see in January what will happen. Maybe he can go on loan then because maybe he needs one or two seasons playing regularly before coming back, like many players in Chelsea have done.”
With opportunities harder to come by, Sarr will do well to seel a move away. A slew of good performances elsewhere could see him stand a better chance of working his way into Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
The situation at Chelsea is unstable as they could potentially lose four centre-backs as their contracts are set to expire. The French international’s loan move could depend on how the situation unfolds with the other defenders.
