According to The Metro, Norwich City manager Daniel Farke has opened up on the recent absence of Chelsea loanee Billy Gilmour from the Canaries’ lineup.
The Scottish international is one of the finest young players in the league and looks to be ready for the big time. Currently, on loan at Carrow Road, he has made six appearances, four of which came in the Premier League.
Gilmour however has missed the club’s last three games and was an unused substitute on the bench. Speaking on the issue, Farke has gone on to admit that he is doing what he thinks is the best for his club.
“It’s not about Billy Gilmour or Brandon Williams, or Kenny McLean or Teemu Pukki who are our players, we just like to play with the players to help us to win points.”
Farke goes on to add that being on loan does not mean players get an easy pass to play every game. While a loan does give players an opportunity, it is far from a guaranteed thing.
“It is not a gift that we play them because we have loaned them and they want to play many games.”
The Norwich boss also went on to add that he is not in the position to please the bigger clubs who have loaned him players. Instead, he will opt to do what is best for Norwich City.
“I am not here to please Manchester United or Chelsea, or Tottenham.”
Farke admits that external issues such as COVID and being away on international duty have hampered Gilmour’s opportunities. Whether the youngster’s chances will improve in the games to come remains to be seen.
One cannot fault Farke for his logic and for doing what he thinks is best for his team. Gilmour is certainly a talented player and can take it as a challenge to make himself undroppable at Carrow Road. The onus is on him to prove his worth.
