According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel isn’t celebrating the achievement of being top of the Premier League table because it’s “far too early”, and admits there’s a “long way to go” before anything becomes certain.
Yesterday was a good day for Chelsea. as they put some daylight between them and the chasing pack. They did their part, defeating Newcastle United 3-0, thanks to a brace from Reece James. Meanwhile, Liverpool failed to convert their chances against Brighton and a 10-man Manchester City lost to Crystal Palace.
But according to Tuchel, now is not the time to celebrate. Someone who looks at the bigger picture, the German did not drop the ball when asked about the results this weekend.
“There has never been a moment where we celebrate results on the other pitches,”
He also suggested that it’s too early in the season to celebrate the top position as there are many matches left that can completely change the story. He also admitted that he remains focused on his team’s performance on the pitch and nothing else.
“First of all, it’s far too early, and second of all, we want to focus on ourselves instead of others. What goes around comes around; we don’t do this.
Chelsea as a team has been showing massive potential since the German manager took over last season. He has already delivered the biggest prize a European club can win, the UEFA Champions League.
In yesterday’s match, Tuchel’s team were good on the ball and achieved everything by keeping calm under pressure. They were able to hold the character in the second half, which Liverpool failed to do in their match against Brighton. A sign of ‘potential’ champions if there ever was one.
The 48 years old manager was satisfied with his team’s overall performance. He also suggested the idea that drives them as a team:’ effort and discipline’.
“There’s a long way to go. I’m absolutely happy today with our performance off the ball. This was the key for me from the first minute to the last, the effort and discipline.”
The former Mainz coach might be right about Premier League’s nature. It’s only October, and the final game is in May, so there are many events to come in between that can cause huge turnarounds.
