Chelsea star Mateo Kovacic suffers a major injury ahead of the Newcastle United clash

According to Football.London, Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Mateo Kovacic has suffered a hamstring injury in training as Chelsea gear up to face Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend.

The Croatian has greatly improved this term under Tuchel and has been one of the Blues’ best players of the 2021/22 season. His output of five assists coupled with a goal in nine league games speaks for itself.

However, the 27-year-old have been dealt with a major blow as is set to be on the sidelines due to the injury. This is an unfortunate situation as he would have felt that he was making real progress at Stamford Bridge.

“You have just reminded me, he suffered a hamstring injury in training and will be out for some weeks.”

The German coach has not specified a date for return and it could be bad news for the Blues fans. But, N’Golo Kante’s recovery and Saul Niguez’s recent upturn in performances could help the Blues sail through the tide.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has also returned to the squad meaning the English club is not without options in midfield. This goes on to show the squad depth of the league leaders which could prove pivotal in the title race.
