Report: Chelsea’s €946m squad the third-highest valued in Top 5 European Leagues

Chelsea ranked third in CIES Football Observatory list of highest squad values in the Top 5 Leagues in Europe

According to a report published by CIES Football Observatory (h/t football.london), Chelsea have been ranked third in the list of teams with the highest squad values in the Top 5 Leagues in Europe.

One of the most cash-rich clubs in the world, the Blues have a total squad value of €946m i.e., if all the players in Chelsea’s squad would be sold, they would generate the aforementioned value.

However, the Blues do not have the highest squad value in England as that accolade would go to both the Manchester clubs. Manchester City have a squad value of €1.28bn while Manchester United are very close with a value of €1.2bn

While that is the case, the West London club do have the highest squad value in London as both Tottenham Hotspur (€568m), and Arsenal (€563m) have almost half the squad value of the Stamford Bridge outfit.

CIES explained the report in detail, stating (h/t football.london):

“The Manchester teams would potentially collect more than €1.2bn in transfer indemnities if they decided to put all their current squad members on the market. Chelsea completes the podium with an estimated squad value of €946m.

Barcelona heads the rankings in the Spanish Liga (€896m), Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga (€890m), Paris St-Germain in the French Ligue 1 (€808m) and Juventus in the Italian Serie A (€618m).The estimated transfer value of all English Premier League players totals €8.9bn (€445m per team on average).

Chelsea have often splurged the cash in the transfer market to acquire the best players around the world. Last season alone, the Blues forked out £200m while they nearly spent half of that amount this season as well as they signed Romelu Lukaku for a club-record deal worth £97.5m.

Over the course of the season, if some players perform better than expected, their values could certainly rise, and the London club could surely top the list.
