A View From The Bridge

“Very small”- Ex-PL ace urges fringe Chelsea midfielder to join PL rivals

Michael Dawson believes that Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley should join Leeds United

In conversation with Sky Sports (h/t Football.London), former English professional footballer Michael Dawson spoke about Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley. He is of the opinion that the 27-year-old midfielder would be an excellent signing for Leeds United.

Barkley made the switch from Everton FC to Chelsea FC for an initial fee of £15m plus add-ons. The English international has struggled to make a regular starting place in the team in the last few seasons during which he also had a loan spell at Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old English player has scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists in 90 matches across all competitions for the Blues. The midfielder is being linked with a move away from the club and the Elland Road outfit could be a great place for the English international to revitalise his career.

Dawson has opined that the former Evertonian would be a great signing for the Whites and also highlighted the lack of squad depth in Marcelo Bielsa’s team:

“Barkley would be a good signing. You talked about the depth in the squad. It’s very, very small.”

Leeds have struggled to get going in the Premier League so far and are currently languishing at 17th position. The Elland Road outfit have struggled to get going due to the absence of key players like Luke Ayling, Patrick Bamford, and Kalvin Phillips.

Ross Barkley is tipped to make a move away from Chelsea

Bielsa’s men managed to scrape a last-minute equaliser courtesy of a stoppage-time penalty from Rodrigo. Barkley hasn’t made quite the impact that the management and supporters would have liked. he has struggled to get proper game time under his belt with Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, and Mateo Kovacic being the preferred midfielders in the starting lineup.

The addition of Saul Niguez could mean that Barkley could be struggling for starts even more. The Blues will have to face a hectic schedule in the months to come and the English midfielder may finally get an opportunity to impress and make a mark. But with a squad that already has an impressive roster of attackers, Barkley could make his way out of Stamford Bridge.
