“Takes time”- Tuchel provides crucial injury update on 23-year-old Chelsea star with Malmo looming

Injury News: Thomas Tuchel has revealed when Christian Pulisic could be back for Chelsea with Malmo looming

Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t The Athletic) [Subscription Required], Thomas Tuchel has revealed that Chelsea star Christian Pulisic is yet to return from injury and will miss the UEFA Champions League tie against Malmo.

The Blues have had a largely successful start to the season as they are top of the Premier League table. However, their Champions League group has become a tricky one ever since they lost to Juventus three weeks ago. Thus, a positive result will be needed against Malmo in mid-week.

One star that will be missing the game is Christian Pulisic. The American has not featured for the club since playing in the season opener against Crystal Palace, where he also found the back of the net. The 23-year-old has suffered Covid-19 and later also picked up an injury during the international break in September.

Thomas Tuchel has now provided an update on when the USMNT international could make his return for the London club. Tuchel told reporters in the press conference ahead of the game against Malmo (h/t The Athletic):

“Only Pulisic is missing tomorrow. I cannot give you all of the details because I am not a doctor, but at the moment he has had some setbacks from pain. Not from a major injury or complications. It is simply the pain in the ankle that disturbs him.

“So right now, we are very, very close. He was so close to come to team training last week and had a little setback and reaction, by pain. Nothing serious. From there on we go… Everybody is doing his very best. Unfortunately, the injury takes its time.”

The German boss also revealed that Pulisic wants to be on the pitch and could make a return soon. The former Borussia Dortmund winger’s trickery and skill on the ball could be a huge miss for the Stamford Bridge outfit, but they have made do without him for a lot of the games this season.

Thus, while the club will be expecting the player to be back as soon as possible, the focus will be to win against the Swedish opposition on Wednesday and make a surge towards the top spot in the group.
