Chelsea beat Newcastle United by a commanding scoreline following an impressive performance by Reece James screamer. A late surge in the second half helped them to get the better of the Toons as the Blues won 3-0 on the night.
The game appeared to be heading to a stalemate but James had other ideas. He opened the scoring on the night with a well-taken strike before notching up a second minutes later. A Jorginho penalty ensured that the result was beyond doubt at St James Park.
The 21-year-old right-back was named as the man of the match and deservingly so as he broke the Magpies’ stubborn defence. Earlier in the match, Hakeem Ziyech had a goal disallowed for offside after he put the ball in the net after a neat finish.
The win saw Thomas Tuchel’s side lead the Premier League table with 25 points from 10 matches. Fortunately enough, the chasing pack also dropped points which made it an even better day for the Blues’ supporters.
Second place holders, Liverpool, dropped points after drawing 2-2 with Brighton and Hove Albion. Defending champions Manchester City, meanwhile, lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace in a game where Aymeric Laporte got a red card.
The icing on the cake for the fans would be the goal scored by on-loan midfielder Conor Gallagher, who took it upon himself to hurt Pep Guardiola’s side.
