Chelsea fans react as Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell score late to down Southampton
Chelsea dominated proceedings but had to depend on late goals from Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell to down a spirited Southampton side.
Trevoh Chalobah gave the Blues an early lead in the ninth minute. James Ward-Prowse brought the Saints level from the spot before being sent off in the 77th minute.
Thomas Tuchel’s men did not let the extra man advantage go to waste and piled on the pressure. Their efforts paid off when Werner broke the deadlock in the 84th minute.
It was the German’s second goal this season and will take some pressure off his shoulders. The same can be said for Ben Chilwell who grabbed the side’s third of the night.
The Englishman has had to play second fiddle to Marcos Alonso this season and the strike will have done him good. The win coupled with Manchester United dropping points means Chelsea will end the night at the top of the table.
Not a bad way for a team to snap a two-match losing streak.
We now take a look at how some fans reacted to the news on Twitter.

Back with a Penalty and a Bang. That’s what I’m talking about

The best Left Footed at the Club😚
I’m so glad Chilly got the goal… that Penalty incident would’ve overshadowed his good performance today, especially in attacking.

It’s the drama of football! 😉
If running is all Timo could do, he gave it all on a cold chilly day in London

Good goal Timo 👍👌
put more respect in the name of Timo, he’s the missing piece in the team, he doesn’t deserve the criticism he receives, perhaps he’s not the one with the most goals or the one that gives the most assists, but is incredible how he increases the level of the others. 💙 pic.twitter.com/c7kP7x3Y9X
