Chelsea supporters react as they draw Brentford in the Carabao Cup quarter-final
Chelsea came into this Carabao Cup draw by beating Southampton in the round of 16 in a penalty shootout. Kepa Arrizabalaga was once again involved in the shootout heroics which saw them get the better of the Saints.
The Blues get drawn with newly-promoted Brentford in a repeat of their previous encounter in the Premier League this season. Thomas Tuchel’s side had won the fixture 1-0 at Brentford Community Stadium in a tightly contested match.
Tuchel’s team had to survive a second-half rally from the Bees and hold on to a Ben Chilwell goal. Thomas Frank’s side also hit the woodwork twice in the game as Edouard Mendy made several crucial saves.
The Champions League winners would be on the road this time in a match that will be the West London derby. They have previously won this competition five times with the last one coming in 2015.
Last time, the Premier League leaders went out against the runners up Tottenham Hotspur through a penalty shootout. They would be hoping to challenge for multiple titles this time to improve on their European glory.
With the club doing well in the league, in the UEFA Champions League group stages, and the domestic cup, it’s not far fetched for some fans to dream of a potential treble this season. But before they can dream of getting their hand on the first silverware on offer this season, they must overcome Thomas Frank’s feisty Bees.
