Chelsea face one major issue in their efforts to extend Mason Mount’s contract

According to The Express, Chelsea could face one major issue in their efforts to extend the contract of academy graduate and English international Mason Mount.

The 22-year-old is already one of the key pieces of Thomas Tuchel’s plans at Stamford Bridge and was also named in the final 30 for the Ballon d’Or. Given his stellar performances, it is only natural that he is given a lucrative new deal.

Mount currently earns £75,000 a week, an amount that will need restructuring if he keeps up his performances. While he may have earned a raise, Chelsea will have to take other issues into consideration.

Chelsea’s efforts to get Mount to pen an extension is not currently the priority. The Blues are currently keen to extend the deals of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Trevoh Chalobah.

According to the report, Mount is keen to get paid on par with Blues teammates Kai Havertz and Timo Werner. Both players have failed to perform at the same level consistent as Mount.

A Blue through and through, Mount looks set to stay on at Chelsea for years to come. It would appear to be a matter of time before he too is amongst the club’s highest earners. As long as he continues to perform at a high level, it will be harder for the club to ignore it.
