Player News: Chelsea close to agreeing a new long-term contract with Trevoh Chalobah
According to Football.London, Chelsea are close to giving 22-year-old Trevoh Chalobah a new long-term contract with the club.
The Blues have had a stellar start to the season as they sit on top of the Premier League table after 9 games this season. Thomas Tuchel seems to have reinvigorated the club after his arrival at Stamford Bridge. It has not only been the big stars but academy products like Mason Mount, Reece James, and Callum Hudson-Odoi who have also shone in the last couple of games.
Chalobah has been the break-out star for the West London club this season. The young defender has made 6 PL appearances for the Blues this season and has already scored 2 goals. He has shown immense potential with the senior squad and also impressed the hierarchy with every opportunity that has been presented to him.
In an interview with Chelsea’s official website (h/t Football.London), the 22-year-old spoke about his time and ambition with the Blues:
“Having played with them for so many years, me watching them gave me the motivation to know I can be there [at Chelsea] as well. It gave me the motivation to work even harder and that gave me the chance.”
A new long-term contract could be a great boost for any academy player. Chelsea have been known for producing some of the best talents across Europe in recent times and they might just have gotten their hands on another potential world-beater with Trevoh Chalobah. His current deal with the club expires in 2022 but it is believed that his representatives and Chelsea have been in talks for this deal for quite some time now.
Even the Blues boss has been very pleased with him and spoke about the younger’s character and pre-season:
“I think he did a fantastic pre-season with us and he’s a very good player and even more importantly a top character,” the Chelsea head coach said in August. He has both feet on the ground and he took his chance very impressively
