“Be decisive”- 20-year-old Chelsea academy graduate reacts to Tuchel’s comments on him

Callum Hudson-Odoi responds to Thomas Tuchel’s comments on him as Chelsea face Southampton in the Carabao Cup

According to Evening Standard, Callum Hudson-Odoi has given his thoughts on the relationship with Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel by responding to the manager’s earlier comments. The winger is included in the matchday squad as the Blues face Southampton in the Carabao Cup.

The 20-year-old took his chance against Norwich City by scoring his first goal of the season. He was also heavily involved in two other goals as the Blues ran riot against the Canaries by a 7-0 scoreline.

Hudson-Odoi has accepted the tough love he received from Tuchel. He understands the reason for it and has welcomed the German manager’s words of advice.

“It was just to keep putting in the intensity, and keep working hard and going forward and being direct – be myself. And try to create as many opportunities as possible, try to score. Be decisive in the box.”

The England international is likely to start against the Saints as Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic are out due to injuries. The forward would be hoping to add to his solid performance and show consistency to his manager.

“It was good the sort of instructions that he gave to me, playing in that position – to be free, to do what you do, and try to make things happen. It was very influential for me. You have got to prove it to yourself as well, keep on doing your stuff.”

At 20, Hudson-Odoi is already a veteran of the game at Chelsea. He has however struggled to build upon his early promise when he broke through. The fact that he has now embraced Tuchel’s philosophy is a good move that can aid him in his development.

The English winger would be hoping to take advantage of the injury situation to break into the starting lineup. This would be a great opportunity to showcase his abilities to the manager and prove that he is dependable.
