“A dangerous situation”- Reliable journalist reveals Chelsea ace’s contract situation amidst Liverpool links

Fabrizio Romano gives verdict on Antonio Rudiger contract situation at Chelsea amidst Liverpool interest

According to Fabrizio Romano via The Boot Room, as quoted by Simon Phillips on Twitter (h/t Football.London), Antonio Rudiger and Chelsea have not been able to reach an agreement on contract renewal amidst interest from Liverpool.

The 28-year-old is one of Chelsea’s key players and has played a major role in our success so far. Thomas Tuchel’s time at the Bridge has been outlined by the club’s defensive solidity and Rudiger has been a key player in it.

Tuchel’s arrival has helped Rudiger not only regain his first-team spot but also emerge as a key piece of the jigsaw. The German star’s contract is however up next summer. He is open to staying at the club but only if he is compensated adequately.

Fabrizio Romano talks about Antonio Rudiger contract situation amidst Liverpool interest

“He [Rudiger] thinks he deserves an important contract. An agreement is far from being reached, so it’s a dangerous situation for Chelsea. I am told that at the moment they’ve [Liverpool] made no approach yet.”

Romano has confirmed that the Reds have not made contact with the German defender. The West London based club would be relieved to hear that, however, the longer the standoff drags on, the more uncertain the situation can grow.

With the January transfer looming around the corner, Marina Granovskaia needs to find solutions as quickly as possible. The centre-back is legally able to reach a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January and that could spell trouble for Chelsea.

Whether Chelsea will give into Rudiger’s demands or are willing to roll the dice next summer remains to be seen. To exacerbate matters, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Thiago Silva also find themselves in the same boat.

Chelsea are in line to have it tough as the contracts of four experienced defenders are up in the air. All four contracts will expire at the end of the season meaning they all could walk for free. Granovskaia would need to use her famed negotiation skills to ensure a ket strength of the team does not just up and walk away in the summer.
