Long-term Chelsea target Stefan de Vrij is shortlisted by Antonio Conte if he is to become the next Manchester United boss
According to Inter Live (h/t Football.London), Antonio Conte wants long term Chelsea target Stefan De Vrij should he become the next Manchester United boss. The former Blues coach is still said to be in contention for the Man Utd job amidst the latest decision from the board.
The 29-year-old is currently playing for Inter Milan and has had 137 appearances for the Seria A team. The centre-back was crucial a defensive backbone in Inter’s journey to the Seria A title under Conte last season.
The defender was previously targetted by the English club under the tenure of the ex-Nerazzurri manager. He has played a total of 88 matches under the Italian manager during his time at San Siro.
The Dutchman has recently replaced Matthijs de Ligt at the national team which shows his quality as a centre-back. De Ligt is a transfer target for Chelsea in case the need arises for an overhaul in defence.
The Inter defender is also represented by super-agent Mino Raiola, who has had a tough relationship with the United. This could play a part should Thomas Tuchel’s side decide to rekindle their interest in the player.
Interestingly, Raiola is also the representative for de Ligt meaning Tuchel’s team could have it ‘easy’ if they decide to go for the Dutch duo. But, dealing with the super-agent is a plight in itself to some because of his notorious ways.

Conte’s return to the league would be a blow to Chelsea which could be further emphasised by the arrival of de Vrij should the Red Devils go down that road. Only time will tell what lies ahead and whether the Champions League winners need to keep an eye out.
