Transfer News: Spanish giants reach ‘verbal pact’ with 21-year-old Chelsea target

Real Madrid are now in pole position to sign Erling Haaland from Dortmund next summer

According to Diario Madridista (h/t football.london), Chelsea have suffered a big blow in their pursuit of Erling Haaland. Real Madrid are believed to have a verbal pact with Dortmund for signing Haaland next summer. The 21-year old striker was linked with a move to Chelsea this summer but ended up staying at the German club until at least January.

Erling Haaland is the striker who is in form and in demand. The 21-year old striker was linked with a host of European clubs this summer but the German club stood firm on their grounds that the striker was not for sale. Chelsea were linked with the Norwegian striker but their efforts were in vain as he is still at Dortmund.

Erling Haaland has been linked with a move away to major European club all summer.

And perhaps, the Blues might not have another shot at signing the player as Real Madrid have reached a verbal agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Erling Haaland next summer. Real are believed to have a good relationship with the German club and the player himself has agreed to join the Spanish giants next summer.

Haaland has remained respectful towards the club this summer as he has a contract running with them until 2024. But the contract also has a release clause of £68m which will be trigged in the summer of 2022. This is something that could have kept the European clubs in the race to sign the striker next summer, but Real Madrid are now in pole position to sign the striker.

Chelsea, despite missing out on Erling Haaland this summer, went on to sign Romleu Lukaku for a club-record fee of £97.5m from Inter Milan. The Belgian forward has started pretty well with the Blues, scoring on his debut against Arsenal. Thomas Tuchel’s demands were met for a No.9 this summer and they are now focused on mounting a title challenge in the Premier League.
