Chelsea officially confirmed that Saul Niguez has signed on a loan deal on deadline day. The Spaniard will spend this season on loan and the Blues will have an option to sign him outright for £30million in 2022.
It took time and it took patience to the point where it looked like it would not be happening. There were so many complications regarding the deal that it went right down to the wire on deadline day. It was understood that Atletico Madrid would need to sign a replacement before they could sanction a loan for Saul.
Transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano even claimed that there was no hope for a deal midway through yesterday. However, it all worked out in the end with Chelsea and Marina Granovskaia pushing for a deal even in the last few hours of deadline day. A loan deal was agreed with Chelsea having the option to sign him permanently for £30million.
With the deal fully completed, Saul took some time to address the move and speak to the fans.
“I am very excited to start this new challenge with Chelsea. Blues fans, I am one of you now and I can’t wait to wear the shirt, start training and see all of you. See you soon!”
Transfer supremo Marina Granovskaia was also happy after concluding the deal and landing the Spanish star.
“We welcome Saul to the club and believe he completes our squad as we compete for honours in five different competitions this season. He is a proven winner, a player with huge experience and we know he will be very well-suited to the challenges that face us on all fronts in the coming year.”
Fans will be eager to see Saul in action but they will have to wait a bit. With the international break going on, it won’t be until September 11th against Aston Villa that we get to see our newest summer addition playing.
