Transfer News: Chelsea handed potential boost in pursuit of 21-year-old Ligue 1 starlet wanted by Man United

Transfer News: Chelsea leading Manchester United in the race to sign Aurelien Tchouameni from AS Monaco

According to Tribal Football (h/t football.london), Chelsea are leading the race to sign Frech midfielder, Aurelien Tchouameni, from AS Monaco. Manchester United have also been eyeing the midfielder but the Red Devils are now likely to keep hold of Paul Pogba, which could see the Blues have a clear path to make move for the Monaco midfielder.

Chelsea had a good transfer window this summer as they brought in Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan. They also secured a loan deal for Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez. However, the Blues were heavily linked with Declan Rice but West Ham United stood firm on their £100million evaluation. This resulted in Chelsea steering clear of the player this summer.

Aurelien Tchouameni has been linked with a move to Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, the Premier League giants are considering Frech midfielder Tchouameni as a potential signing in the upcoming transfer windows. United were also keeping close tabs on the player but their midfield ace, Pogba, is believed to be happy with the club’s transfer business this summer and could extend his stay at United, thus giving Chelsea an upper hand in their pursuit of the AS Monaco midfielder.

The United midfield star spoke highly of the Chelsea target after playing alongside him for the French national team. Pogba, while speaking to French Radio station RTL (h/t football.london) said:

“He’s not a boy, he is a man. It’s pleasure to play next to him. We wish him to play a lot more games and that I am always by his side.”

Chelsea currently have N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Saul as natural midfielders in their ranks. Missing out on any one of the key players would make things difficult for the Blues considering they would be aiming for multiple titles this season.

They already have seen injuries taking their toll with Kante suffering from fitness issues early on. Potentially signing the 21-year-old Tchouameni, in that regard, would only future-proof their midfield.

Chelsea will be back in action for their Champions League opener against Zenit St Petersburg.

The Blues, after their win against Aston Villa in the Premier League, will now focus on their opening game in the Champions League against Zenit St Petersburg. The reigning Champions of Europe would be hoping to defend their title this season against the likes of PSG, Man City and Bayern Munich.
