Olivier Giroud reveals tough conversation with Thomas Tuchel before leaving Chelsea for AC Milan

Speaking in an interview with French outlet Telefoot (h/t Mirror), AC Milan striker Olivier Giroud revealed that it was an obvious choice for him to leave Chelsea this summer.

The French striker joined Chelsea from Arsenal in the January transfer window of 2018. Since then, Giroud had played important cameos and impressed whenever he has been on the pitch.

Now 34, it was understandable that he would be getting less and less playing time, especially with Timo Werner in the fray. The German striker was signed last summer and was a regular starter for Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel.

Keeping this mind, the former Montpellier hitman explained why it was obvious for him to leave Stamford Bridge. Giroud joined Serie A giants in a £1.6million move.

Giroud breaks his silence

“I liked the Premier League, but at some point, I had to make a decision. I told Tuchel that the last three months had been too difficult. t was an obvious choice to leave Chelsea, I moved on with great emotion for all the moments we experienced. Some were good, some others not so much, but we won three important titles.”

Giroud hasn’t had a shabby start to life in Milan. The France international has netted two goals already and came on against Liverpool in their 3-2 UEFA Champions League loss earlier this month.

As for Chelsea, the club made the bold move of bringing in Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge for the second time in his career. The Belgian international joined this summer from Inter Milan, 10 years after he first signed for the Blues.

It seems like a win-win for all parties. Giroud is getting more gametime while Chelsea would be content with their options in attack despite selling Tammy Abraham and Giroud this summer.
