Speaking to El Partidazo de COPE via Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t football.london), La Liga president Javier Tebas has claimed that Real Madrid can sign both Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe next summer. Chelsea and a whole host of other European clubs were linked with Haaland this summer. However, the Norwegian striker remained at Borussia Dortmund this season and will be looked upon by clubs in coming windows.
Chelsea were in the race to sign the 21-year-old Dortmund striker this summer. However, the German clubs stood firm on their stance and did not entertain any offers. After failing to land Haaland at Stamford Bridge, the Blues went on to re-sign Belgian striker, Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan for a reported fee of £97.5m.
Since his arrival back at the club, Lukaku has netted three goals so far in his three games in the Premier League. And his signing could be key to the club’s success this season. Despite missing out on Haaland this summer, Chelsea may not have wanted to miss out on the striker next summer as the player has a release clause of £63.9m which will be activated then.
However, the report suggests that Chelsea and other European clubs are now trailing to Real Madrid, who are understood to have enough financial aid to sign Haaland and Mbappe next summer. The Spanish giants themselves have Karim Benzema & Eden Hazard in their team and could add Haaland and Mbappe as their attacking threat. The La Liga President gave his verdict while speaking to El Partidoz de COPE via Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (h/t football.london) and said:
“Real Madrid have enough money to sign both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland next summer”
Chelsea have signed Lukaku this summer but getting in a player like Haaland would be welcomed by their fanbase for sure. However, it will be interesting to see whether the La Liga giants are able to get hold of both Haaland & Mbappe in the same transfer window.
