It was the marquee clash of the sixth matchweek in the Premier League as Chelsea hosted Manchester City in a high profile game. Both sides came into the match in decent form and as expected, they put out two very strong lineups.
The game went as expected with City dominating the ball and Chelsea piling on the numbers at the back. City bombarded the Chelsea box with repeated attacks but the home side stood firm. Chelsea had a few half-openings but nothing of note came about as the duo of Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku was left scavenging for clear-cut opportunities.
There was an injury to Reece James that forced Chelsea into a change as Thiago Silva came on. Despite Chelsea packing in the numbers, Gabriel Jesus stepped up to the plate and with a slick turn and some help off a deflection, managed to break the deadlock. The ball looked to have come off Antonio Rudiger, leaving Edouard Mendy with no chance.
Chelsea were coming second best in everything but it was City that defended well to keep it clean at the back. Mendy was also to thank for Chelsea as he kept quite a number of chances out. The game ended 0-1 in favour of City as both teams are now on equal points.
This loss means that Chelsea’s unbeaten run is over. The Blues fans were visibly unhappy as their side dropped an unusually below-par performance. Here are some of the rather unhappy and unpleasant reactions.
