“What he has achieved”: Chelsea record signing Romelu Lukaku responds to Cristiano Ronaldo comparisons

Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku hits back at Cristiano Ronaldo comparisons

According to Football.london, Chelsea ace Romelu Lukaku went on to hit back at comparisons with Cristiano Ronaldo. Lukaku was asked whether he could break the international record of goals set by Ronaldo recently. However, the Belgian refused to buy into those questions and claimed that Ronaldo was among the top three players in the world.

Some serious talent moved across from Serie A to the Premier League this summer. Romelu Lukaku was surely the headline signing. But in a surprise turn of events, Ronaldo left Juventus to return to Manchester United. That meant Lukaku’s goal-scoring rivalry with Ronaldo is set to continue in the Premier League as well.

It is likely that both these star strikers will face each other a few times this season. However, with the international break going on, there was a new record that Ronaldo set. His goals against Ireland meant that he is now the top goalscorer of all time in international games with 111 strikes.

Lukaku shows immense respect for Ronaldo

Lukaku, who is on 67 goals for Belgium in 100 games, was asked if he can go on to eclipse the record of Ronaldo in the future. The striker hit back saying that such comparisons should not be made. He went on to claim that the Portuguese is an outstanding player and inspiration for his generation.

“Don’t ever compare me to Cristiano Ronaldo, never. Cristiano Ronaldo is, for me, in the top three best players in the history of football. I’m not going to rank him from first to third but he’s in there. What he has achieved in football today for players of my generation is something exceptional. I was lucky enough to play against him in Italy and now that he’s back in the Premier League, it’s all good for English football. As for the rest, comparing statistics and all that, it’s useless.”
