According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have received a huge blow with N’Golo Kante being ruled out of the Juventus clash. The 30-year-old will not be able to play in this crucial Champions League game on Wednesday after testing positive for Covid-19.
It has not been a smooth start to the season for Kante. Only two months in and he has featured a rare number of games, often not clocking out the entire 90 minutes. A groin injury early in the season and some of the recurring fitness issues have kept him out of the side. Thomas Tuchel has had to use him in a very sparing manner.
Against Spurs, he played out the second half of the game while against Aston Villa he was taken off at halftime. Even against Manchester City, he was hooked off at the hour mark. These injuries and fitness problems are limiting his impact on the side and he has not been able to deliver the goods like last season.
Now, Chelsea are set to be without Kante for their crucial game against Juventus in the Champions League. The World Cup winner has tested positive for Covid-19 and has been ruled out for the game. That will increase the pressure on Tuchel who will have to put out a different midfield combination.
Tuchel confirmed the same via the pre-match press conference.
“N’Golo has tested poisitive for Covid-19.”
This was rather unfortunate and not a lot can be done about it. After a great last season, he was expected to keep up his top performances and help the side even further. However, this is another setback in a long line of those this season. However, his absence can give chances to Ruben Loftus-Cheek who is waiting in the wings. Fans will be hoping that Kante recovers safely and gets back to action soon.
