Report: Serie A side could revisit interest in 30-year-old Chelsea ace

Transfer News: Inter Milan can revisit interest in Chelsea star Marcos Alonso

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t ESPN), Chelsea ace Marcos Alonso could now be on the radar of Serie A side Inter Milan.

The 30-year-old fell down the pecking order with Frank Lampard during the first half of last season. However, he found some game-time under Thomas Tuchel, who was appointed by the club in January.

Alonso still managed just 17 appearances across all competitions last year. Ben Chilwell, who the club signed as a part of their £200million expenditure last year, featured heavily for Lampard while he also made the left-wing back role his own under Tuchel.

While that was the case until last season, Alonso, unlike Chilwell, had a full pre-season with the Stamford Bridge outfit this summer, and Tuchel has rewarded the Spaniard with a start in all four games for the club until now.

The 30-year-old also played a crucial role in the club’s UEFA Super Cup final three weeks ago. He slotted home one of the decisive kicks during the penalty shoot-out against Villarreal, following this up with a beautiful free-kick against Palace and an incredible defensive display against Liverpool last weekend.

However, Inter Milan could now weigh up a move for the left-back as the contracts of both Aleksandar Kolarov and Ivan Perisic’s contracts will expire this summer, according to Calciomercato (h/t ESPN).

Moreover, given that Chilwell is only 24, the Englishman could be the long-term option for the Blues in the full-back area. That might not mean the end of the road for Alonso, however, as Tuchel would still need backup in that position.

Chelsea’s third option down that flank in Emerson Palmieri left on loan this summer, implying that there is no certainty on his future either.

Hence, it remains to be seen whether the Blues would be willing to let the former Fiorentina full-back leave the club next year or not.
