“Answering every question”- Man United legend explains the advantage Chelsea have over Champions League rivals

Rio Ferdinand believes Chelsea have advantage over their Champions League rivals

According to Daily Star, Rio Ferdinand believes Chelsea are confident and that can be a massive advantage in the Champions League. The Blues ran out narrow winners against Zenit St. Petersburg in their Champions League opener.

Not a lot of people would have expected Chelsea to go on and win the Champions League last season. Yet, they did and that too beating the likes of Real and Atletico Madrid and Manchester City. It was Chelsea’s second Champions League crown after nine years. Hence, they have started the season as defending champions and favourites to some extent.

Chelsea won 1-0 over Zenit.

Chelsea had to kick off their campaign against Zenit and they did so with a win. Romelu Lukaku scored his first Champions League goal for Chelsea and that was enough to hand them the three points. The Blues hardly looked in trouble through the game and will face Juventus in the next game of the competition.

Premier League legend and pundit Rio Ferdinand was all praise for Thomas Tuchel and Chelsea.

“They’re a big strong team and they have the know-how now. The experience of winning the Champions League gives you a supreme confidence. When you watch every single situation, they can go a goal down, down to 10 men – like they did at Anfield – go a goal up and see a game out. They deal with every situation that’s coming round the corner now.

He felt that Chelsea have confidence in them that gives them an advantage in the competition.

“There’s a confidence, an assuredness, a calmness when they’re doing it. That for other teams watching on they’ll be thinking ‘woah, these guys are serious’. You’re not seeing many chinks in their armour at the moment and there will be ups and downs in this league, that happens. But at the moment, they’re answering every question at the door.”

Chelsea might not have been at their ruthless best but they still got the job done with a win. Juventus are likely to be tougher opponents but given the form Chelsea are in, one could fancy them to win. For now, Chelsea have a tough run of games to come starting with Tottenham on the weekend.
