According to The Guardian (h/t The Sun), Chelsea might yet send Trevoh Chalobah on loan despite an impressive start to the season. The academy graduate is in the running to get another start for the Blues when they face Arsenal at the weekend. However, with Chelsea keen on Jules Kounde, Chalobah might end up making way.
The academy graduate is having a whirlwind few days at Chelsea. Chalobah spent the last three seasons on loan at Ipswich, Huddersfield and Lorient. He was handed a chance to impress in the preseason as most of the senior players were yet to return to the fold. Safe to say, Chalobah has taken to the side like duck to water.
In his debut for the club, he won the UEFA Super Cup against Villarreal. Days later he was handed his debut in the Premier League and he put the finishing touches on a win over Crystal Palace with a splendid strike to score his first goal. Thomas Tuchel is said to be impressed with Chalobah’s start at the club.
So much so, that he could hand him a start against Arsenal in the London derby on the weekend. However, despite all that ballyhoo, Chalobah might yet be sent out on loan. Chelsea are chasing Jules Kounde to revamp the defence and if he arrives, it would leave a youngster like Chalobah on the fringes.
The 22-year-old has impressed so far at Chelsea and has given the vibe that he can make the cut. It would be a harsh move to send him on loan after such a bright start. However, if Kounde indeed arrives, Chelsea will have no choice but to loan Chalobah out. They will likely extend his deal before doing so as it ends in 2022
