According to the Daily Mail, Southampton appear to have won the race to land promising Chelsea youngster Tino Livramento.
The 18-year-old is an excellent prospect and looks set to become the second Blues starlet to swap the Bridge for St. Mary’s this summer. The other being centre-back Dynel Simeu who has already signed with the south coast outfit.
Livramento is set to sign a five-year deal with the Saints and will look to continue his development under Ralph Hasenhuttl. Chelsea will also pocket a cool £5m for his services. (h/t Daily Mail)
The England Under-19 ace has just a year to go on his current deal at Chelsea and attracted interest from a number of sides from across Europe. The likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Brighton, AC Milan, RB Leipzig and Monaco were all touted to be interested in the player. (h/t Daily Mail)
Negotiations with the Blues regarding an extension did not yield fruit and the starlet now looks set to take his talents elsewhere. Hasenhuttl was in the market for a versatile backup full-back and believes he has landed one of the best youngsters in the country to fill that position.
It is unfortunate that we look set to lose the youngster but there is little to deny that he will get a number of first-team opportunities at St Mary’s. Certainly more than what he could have at Stamford Bridge. He will now provide cover to Kyle Walker-Peters and Romain Perraud at Southampton.
Livramento joined Chelsea as an under-9 and was held in high regard at the club. He progressed through the ranks and made the bench for our first team games against Arsenal and Manchester City. That was as close as he came to making a breakthrough at the London giants.
Southampton now looks set to reap the benefits of his coaching at Chelsea. Whether he will reach the levels expected of him remains to be seen.
A number of youngsters have come up through the Chelsea academy and made their name in the first team in recent years. The likes of Tammy Abraham, Reece James and Mason Mount are testament to that. While there certainly were opportunities for Livramento to thrive at the Bridge, he has chosen to do so otherwise. He is now the second promising full-back to leave us in recent years, following in the footsteps of Tariq Lamptey.
