According to transfer news from MaisFutebol (h/t The Sun), Chelsea could be about to face competition from Tottenham in their efforts to sign Luis Diaz. The Colombian was expected to be a wanted man this season with his exploits in Copa America. Now, his camp are in England trying to secure a move.
While most of the ballyhoo was around Argentina and Lionel Messi winning the Copa America, it was an underdog Colombia side that pushed all the way to third place. Luis Diaz was a part of that side but that would be an understatement. It was the winger that pretty much dazzled for them through the tournament.
Diaz finished the tournament as the joint top-scorer alongside Lionel Messi. His four strikes were against Brazil, Argentina, and Peru which aren’t too shabby. The Colombian is a reliable presence for his club Porto as well, winning two trophies in his first season at the club back in 2020.
Now, the Blues want Diaz. The 24-year-old winger is said to have a release clause of £68million but Porto could accept an offer of around £30million or so. Diaz’s advisors are said to be flying to England to discuss a potential move and Chelsea along with Spurs are set for talks with them.
Not that Diaz is a bad player by any means. Far from it actually. However, it remains to be seen if Tuchel actually makes the move.
The 22-year-old made a top class performance and marked an assist in Chelsea's 3-0 win against West Ham.
