According to transfer news from CaughtOffside (h/t Daily Star), Chelsea are mulling over the possibility of signing Saul Niguez on loan. Chelsea have been in discussions with Atletico Madrid over the same. Liverpool and Manchester United are also said to be after him.
It is of the understanding that Chelsea are after a new midfielder this summer. The Blues already have two world-class midfielders in Jorginho and N’Golo Kante with an able deputy such as Mateo Kovacic.
Nonetheless, they want to add another midfielder to bolster their options and Saul is who they want for it. The Spaniard’s future has been the subject of speculation over the summer.
Liverpool and Manchester United were among those to show early interest. However, nothing has happened so far from their angle, which means Chelsea have now gained the hot seat.
Chelsea are now keeping tabs on Saul, who won the La Liga title with Atletico last season, and there is some belief that a loan deal is in the works. Discussions have also taken place but the situation is still at a very green stage. The Blues are also said to have Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice as other targets.
The La Liga winning midfielder is coming off a rather underwhelming season from a personal level. But it needs to be remembered that even a season or so ago, he was impressing for the Rojiblancos. A versatile midfielder, Saul might be able to add something different to Chelsea if we can get him.
